ATC has a history going back five decades and although we are small and agile, we are considered the name behind the names. Our products influences our lives each day in even the smallest of ways by designing and manufacturing quality reliable industrial control products.
Since our inception in 1972, we have been asked to do some special applications for customers as we have a reputation of "we can do" attitude. With some creativity and our well earnt reputation for quality and reliability, Automatic Time Control has taken these challenges in our stride. Here are a few examples of the many "specials" we have been asked to do.
Now long gone, the original Sydney Monorail circled part of the Sydney CBD and Darling Harbour area. Many may not remember but initially the monorail would break down between stations on a number of occasions. This problem was with the power protection system and it was ATC that developed a special Phase Failure Relay 600V AC that was the solution. Because of our work, similar monorails in the US and Europe have the same ATC Phase Failure protection in them today.
ATC was asked to develop a custom "Speakers" clock that would control the talk time of our politicians in the lower house of NSW Parliament. Made with a large red LED display (made up of a series our individual LED's) our custom product was incorporated into the ornate woodwork structure of the chamber.
The locally built Sydney Tangara train carriage sets have a few ATC products installed. We developed a control module for the cars' air conditioning system as well as a security interface device within the Guard's cabin controls. On the XPT trains they use a ATC special Frequency Control Module to trigger within the trains air conditioning system.
In 1988, the TV remake of the Mission Impossible series was being filmed in the Gold Coast Queensland studios. ATC was asked to make a LED countdown display module to be used in a scene featuring an explosive device. Since then we have made other "electronic" props for other theatre and sets.
Through our history ATC has made series of products including industrial strength battery chargers. These were used in a number of installations including in a series of Sydney Harbour Tug boats in the late 80's and early 90's. In addition we developed a custom intercom system for high clarity in challenging environments.
One of our first products we made in the early 1970's was an electromechanical programmer which was made of a drum barrel with programming pegs, micro-switches, relay and synchronous motor assembly. This was the forefront of what was to follow in PLC and microcontrollers. These were developed for mine sites, power station and general industrial applications. In 2015 we were contacted by the customer to see if we could do a general clean and TLC service after 40 plus years of dust and grime, the unit is still working today.
Did you know that in the 80's and 90's ATC manufactured a microprocessor based bell ringing time clock for schools? These units automated class and recess bell ringing functions and at the time were revolutionary.
ATC designed and supply both power, frequency and protection monitoring equipment for Australia's AUSSAT Satellite Ground Station, the largest such facility in Australia. Once again we were chosen for our reliability and customisation to meet their specific needs.
ATC through our history has also provided OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) services for many companies, both local and multinational to meet their unique requirements in various number of industries. These includes many recognised brands you see everyday and our products, kits and packages are branded used both locally and abroad. From Climate Controls, People Moving, Industrial Packages, Water Treatment and Food preparation, the list goes on and these all have one thing in common - ATC.
